Ellie had a Harry Potter themed birthday party.
First task was to make their pets. They made owls.
After making owls, they made wands.
After making wands, we watched a clip of the 2nd movie that showed planting mandrakes. We had made the mandrakes by hot gluing leaves to a baby we found at Hobby Lobby.
The planted mandrakes.
Each kid got two cups of dirt cake so that they could take out their mandrake and plant it in the other cup. We also made magic potion drinks that were presweetened Kool-Aid under ice and then you poor on lemon-lime soda. The soda magically changes color.
Ellie picked dirt cake for her birthday dessert which was perfect for planting mandrakes.
Potions class. We mixed vinegar and baking soda with some Kool-Aid powder. This was their favorite part. They thought it was so cool.
We also did a Harry Potter photo booth. Nate tested out the costume and the backdrop for us so we could figure out candle placement.
The finished backdrop. The brick wall is a tablecloth with bricks painted with a sponge. The candles were battery-powered tealights with printer paper taped around and hung by black thread.
To end the party we flung frogs. I had found rubber frogs that you could fling.
The birthday girl!
